Hi guys

Snow up here.

Am I happy? NO! Why? Well, having a County with all it's extra fancy bits, there's AVM free-wheeling hubs aren't there? Today I encountered a problem. Every so often I use the hubs to keep things moving and although the nearside one's a bit stiff, everything's been fine - until today! Now the damn thing won't turn all the way so I can line up the 4s. No problem going the other way to line 2 + 4. Is it 'hammer-time?' Seriously considering removing them at some point in the future as they're a pain in the rear. I live in the country and sometimes just to get into the drive means engaging 4wd so really needing some good advice.

Hope someone can come up with something.

Thanks everyone

Thanks Dr E - will see what we've got out in the garage (though I don't have bolts on my FWHs but a bar type thingy that I grip with pliers and turn - oh God I'm being thick aren't I?)

Actually the garage can wait 10 mins while my hands defrost round a mug of tea

:)

Right - garage, big hammer, chisel, WD40 - gonna try everything. If you hear of an explosion in the Far North - I broke something (I may be small but I am LOUD!)...................and yes Dr E, the damn things will be off next year and same to you.....:p........he he

Thanks loads - will let you know the outcome

they are gummed up . Take them off and clean them and then regrease them it is very simple to do and you will see when you get them off the hub. If they are that tight it means you axle shafts are not fully engaged and could break something

Hi gang

Well, having spent about an hour rummaging around in the garage, it was too dark to do anything because I have no option but to work outside in the cold - the garage is full of Discovery! This morning however, having driven to work (isn't ice fun ), I managed to turn the annoying hub to 4:4 - bit stiff so definitely needs stripping and cleaning. Good eh? Well, it would be if I could engage 4wd - yellow knob isn't engaging and even the red's refusing to budge. Guessing the hub hasn't actually engaged. Serves me right for not going out to play for several months and neglecting to fiddle with my knobs (I can SEE you grinning). Oh well, I guess I know where I'll be whenever I have a spare minute of daylight............................ (or I could be a lazy cow and take it down to our local engineers - we'll see).

Thanks for all your help everyone and yes, the hubs will be binned as soon as I get the alternative bits I need.

:)

You don't have lights that work in the dark with a extension cord???:p:p:p

Hey Kazzi, Hows ya doin'

Hope your all keeping well!

Well upset we've got no snow yet down ere.

If find you do want a spare set of FWH assuming theyre 24 spline (late series III) I have a set here for you will go outside and test them in a mo. Might be worth stripping them down and cleaning them up and then swapping them over when you get chance.

There is a local lad heading up to Scotland on Saturday to take some pics he's quite a keen photographer young LRJack. He could forum relay them to somone localish. not sure where he's going exactly bit will find out.

Andys is stealing that axle off me anyhow.

Hey Jai

That's really good of you. If your pal's coming up this far, he can come stay here if he likes. To be honest I'm planning on binning the hubs - never had this problem with Frog so back to basics I think, particularly as we're so far off the beaten track and parts are pretty hard to get (it means waiting  and you know me). I will think about it though. Will give you a shout (think I've got your number somewhere). There's not that much snow really - not compared to last year but I've got some serious catching up to do getting the Bean sorted (been that kind of year) as we've been reliably informed that more is on it's way and I CANNOT be without my Landy.

If it doesn't snow down your way - get your butts up here to play :D

Cheers Kaz,

There was some Grand plan of taking a road trip in Andys series IIa tdi and my 90 to Scotland or some far away place in the bad weather but that will be next year now as Andys IIa is stil being built. I've been around the back fitting a salisbury to my little 80 inch. I'm turning into leafer Oh Noooooo!!!

But it will have a coil sprung front axle albeit on leafs at the front!!
