Hiya guys and girls,

Whilst working on the classic the alternator decided it didn't like working anymore. Checked it, and it is dead.

it's an A133/80 unit.

Can I use another alternator ie a 100 amp unit? as they seem to be bloody expensive, and Ebay is full of the 100amp units for the 4.0litre. I know that the pulleys are different but can they be changed.

And are magneto marelli nits any good?

Do you know why it is dead?

I recently refurbished an A133/80 - Bearings, slip rings, brushes, voltage regulator and rectifier. The parts are as cheap as chips. If you take it to a good auto electrician I would think they can re-build it. An alternative is to get an exchange alternator.

As for Magnetti Marelli I don't really know but I do know that in the workshop manual it does show a magnetti alternator so I guess they were used as OEM parts.

Havent located ecaxt fault has haven't got an ammeter that goes high enough.
But checked voltage output at 2volts. There is a good earth as no voltage change if you test using battery neg, chassis neg or alternator neg.
Rev counter does not work now either. Which is apparently linked to alternator. It's been intermittant for months, but no longer moving.
