Bit of an odd question, but, I'd like your opinion on something... Are RRC 200TDi Auto’s impractically slow? I’m looking to do some light-medium off-roading, towing and commuting. My American Mrs will also use it for shopping runs, etc (part of the reason for buying an auto…).

I’m used to a modern diesel, which I appreciate will be much faster, but I don’t want the RRC to drive me totally nuts cos it’s stupidly sluggish…

Right, I haven’t bought it yet. It’s a theoretical question. I’ve driven 200tdi’s and other stuff like that in the past, but never an auto.

Hello to everyone BTW – I’m new to LandyZone J

I must admit that a 200tdi auto is not exactly rapid. My wife has one and compared to my 110 it accelerates like a sedated snail. 110bhp in a 2 ton vehicle with a power sapping 4 speed auto is not a recipe for speed.

It seems to me one of the problems is that the stall speed of the torque converter is lower than the spool up speed of the turbo. on a frosty morning they won't go up a kerb ih high range.
I would still have one though, best thing is teach the other half how to drive a manual.

Yes, that is a problem, if you have an auto for off roading, you will find you have to use low range a lot more than on a manual.

Ah, drove that 200tdi auto today. Seemed to go ok. Bit sluggiesh around 40, but didn't really give it a chance to warm up totally.
Do RRC tdi's usually have an electric vacume pumps for the breaks?
