Ive been offered a rotten 200tdi disco in part ex for my V8 discos. I dont really want it, but its the best offer Ive had.
I fancy a 200tdi RRC, so I had a quick look and found an early 90s 4 door without an engine with a few other bits missing. It used to be a V8 auto, and its very cheap, the seller tells me its solid (which is probably BS)
So, my question is, do I need to be able to weld/fabricate to make the 200tdi engine/gearbox go into the range rover, or is it all just nuts and bolts?
Thanks!

Is the chassis shot in the disco? Body swap??

Otherwise nut and bolt swap. Put gearbox in same place & weld some new engine mounts in.

Make sure sills are good before lifting body

Hi, Im told the chassis on the 200tdi disco is solid, and the body isnt. A body swap sounds rather more difficult to me because Ive not got a workshop, or any way of lifting the body.
So engine mounts need welding, Ive no idea how to weld, so Id have to get a mate to do that for me. Is it just a case of cutting them off both chassis and welding the 200tdi mounts onto the range rover chassis?
Thanks!

The disco 200 tdi has large rubber mounts, a bit of research will show if the RRC are the same.
I would hazard a guess you can buy new weld on mounts form ebay etc, your welder will appreciate it.

Your welcome to buy my discos if you like, one of each gearbox too...

I did think about them but yer miles away plus ive had a clear out & have no room until my garage gets the block work done
got tonnes of sand & pallets of 6" blocks every where it looks like a mini stone henge 🤣

I sometimes wonder what you actually want/think.
A rusty 200tdi disco swap for 2 V8s 🤔 :vb-groan2:
To then get a RRC which in itself sound sus at best.
Then end up with a load more work than you have at the moment to make 2 discos into 1 which you already have:vb-confused2:.

Well, its a swap with cash my way.
The guy even offered to do it himself and put it through an MoT for a straight swap. I said Id think about it. An MoTed running 200tdi RRC on a disco chassis for 2 broken V8s isnt a bad deal, I dont think?
Ive decided I dont want a RRC because the payload is too low, but if its on a disco chassis/numberplate then its got a decent bit more payload

Don’t know that bit…
Sorry
My RRC is stamped as 3500kg GVW and 7000kg GTW, but it is a bit of a hybrid, with '74 chassis, '84 body and 200tdi. It's also on an Irish, brown card, logbook where all details and any changes are handwritten. After 49yrs it's a bit of a mess!
