Hi all,
When I am driving my 1992 RR classic 3.9 efi , the battery light does not come on but the headlights intermittantly get brighter then dimmer , and the heater fan speeds up and then slows ! I tightened the belt a couple of weeks ago after it was squeeling. Could the alternator brushes be on their way out ? bob.

Sounds similar to when my alt was dying. When the dash lights are on and handbrake lights, does the lights sort of pulse? Mines done this and a nice new alt made the world of difference.
Lights brighter, windows go up and down with power etc!

Just another thing to add .The lpg is backfiring intermittantly ! I have renewed the dizzy and rotor arm with o.e.parts . I have fitted a new intake hose (plenum to air-flow meter),I renew plugs every 6 months (last done september 09), i renewed the ht leads about 10 months ago , yet still i get the back-fire ! Could this problem be allied to the charging system problem ?(i.e. critical voltages required for lpg ignition).

I'd get it running well first on Petrol then worry about the LPG, you may solve the LPG problem when you fix the other. I don't know a great deal about the LPG system, but i did get a backfire the last forest drive i was on with ALT troubles!! since i've fixed the problem, i've had no more cut outs and no more back fires.:)

When you say O.E parts i take it it's not genuine LUCAS?

When i first got my RRC i had no end of running probs, and it turned out to be poor parts used throughout the car, it was amazing how GENUINE parts rectified the problems.
