Rotary oil filter

just about to do the oil change, and was just thinking that I'm sure I read on here that there was a particular make of rotary filter to stay away from, was I dreaming, I was going to order a Mann filter. I know sounds like a stupid question!

It's not stupid, stay away from cheap pattern ones as Britpart, Allmakes, Bearmach etc... get branded one, Mahle, Mann, Coopers, Filtron are good

I got the genuine Land rover branded one to make sure.

Many folk have expressed dissatisfaction regarding fit, durability and performance in various combinations with regard to pattern items. Some makes seem more prevalent than others for issues. So when it comes to items vital to how long your engine may last it is sensible to buy quality items, genuine branded ones may be more expensive to buy but may end up being more cost effective in the long run if they are better for the engine. Personally, I prefer to put the best I can afford on and always have done for peace of mind.

I'm not saying advice to stay away from branded is wrong.....but how do folks know they are crap??? Its not like they break after a couple of months or anything obvious goes wrong with them. Or is there? That said, I use Coopers or Mann First service I ever done on the Disco I used all LR filters. Cost a bloody fortune and swore never again.

Yes I have looked at genuine Land Rover filters, and they are a fortune, and I was looking at Mann, that's why I asked, does make you wonder though what Land Rover put in their filters to warrant the price difference!
Think I'll go with Mann or Coopers, thanks for the info

Overheads warrant the price difference same as any vehicle named brand.

I saw a video once from a filter manufacture same process in construction but the final two were where the line parted into spray booths spraying the different colours and the final one was the brand name printing on the side and non stop just like a beer bottling plant,
Also ive found filters exactly the same in shape and size in the past, but different colour/name ie Mahle and Champion most recently.

I keep an eye on ebay and buy things I will be needing when they crop up cheap. I manage to buy genuine LR, Jaguar and Suzuki parts for servicing our cars without spending daft money and buying through the year also spreads the cost. The LR branded rotary filter I bought last year was £9.91 including P&P.

It's the LR stamp you pay for, nothing else! Unsure who makes the Land Rover filters - but Mann produce the filters for Audi and stamp 4 rings next to the part number. Audi then sell for double the price of Mann.
Knowing this now - I always buy Mann filters no matter the vehicle!
