Roof rail gaskets

I've got the roof lining out of my 04 TD5 at the moment to sort the leaking sunroofs and someone suggested I reseal the roof rails at the same time as this can be another entry point. I've got both bars off and the spongy pads that are fixed to the bottom are saturated and we've not had rain for a week!

I could just let them dry out and bed them back on a good dollop of sealant with some more in the hole but it makes sense to replace them except this is where it gets confusing. A search for replacements throws up eight different gaskets, photo attached shows all the part numbers. My bars however have a single foam pad under each one and nothing inside the car so totalling four simple foam pads, certainly nothing like the shaped ones found here.

Was there a change of design or did someone forget to put the rest on mine? How can something made of squidgy sponge be called a gasket? I can't believe these haven't leaked already. I actually like the look of it without bars on, it's a shame they don't do some low profile blanking plates.

Prob best give LR a call and see what part number They give you for your reg/chassis then use that number to google for the best price

I should have guessed this wouldn't be straight forward. I'll give them a call later and try for some part numbers but may just buy some neoprene sheet off Fleabay and cut some new ones, or revert to plan A with the sealant.

Or, replace the roof rails with some washers/plates you make up yourself and some sealant?

I spoke to my local dealer today and they confirmed there was a change to these so needed the chassis number to get the correct part number. The four gaskets used on mine are CAJ000020, CAJ000030, CAJ000040 and CAJ000050. Google results look promising but blimey, £27 for four sticky back neoprene pads!

I'm going to look at the blanks idea first, see if there's something suitable 'off the shelf'. Circular black plastic will probably look the best, similar to the GPS antenna blank and bedded on a very thin layer of black Tigerseal? If I ever need to put stuff on the roof again I'll treat myself to a decent sized pair of bars.

Mine are all cracked and splitting round the edges as well as turning green so having got this far I think replacing would be better than reusing. I've ordered some nylon hole plugs designed for bike farings that should fit so I'll see how they look in place of the bars before ordering new pads.
