Hi All

Recently fitted a 6 lamps {55w per lamp} roof bar from M&M 4X4, have chased the wires into the cab no problem via the door seal BUT where is the best exit from the cab to get the wires into the relay i want to locate in the engine bay ?

Also

Can these just beplugged into the high beam feed or should I fit a separate toggle switch ??

any advice welcomed.

There's a grommet to the left of the fuseboard (oval shaped) - good for routing things into the engine bay

Alternatively, to the left of the heater box (as you look at it from the front in the engine bay) is a black blanking plate held by 4 screws - remove and you'll see the wires leading to the wiper motor - can thread things through here behind the dash if you use stiff wire

cheers guys

Don't wire roof spots into main beam as it's an MOT fail. You can only do that with headlight level spots. Just re-wired mine today via an on/off switch in the cab. Routed wire from relay to cab so it comes in behind the clocks. Mounted relay to bulkhead and made a new earth point next to it. Direct feed from battery to relay via 30a blade fuse. Switch live from fusebox to switch.
Good luck.

Good point Andyland........ i have a rear work light to wire in also so have two rockers and two additional warning lights, both will run via 30amp relays andthe bulkead sounds like a good mounting piont..... will wire in after the bank hols and get it finished.....

How about fitting a 3 way switch before the relay so they can be off, on on their own, and on when main beam is on for off road use.

The way I've done mine with a two way switch is they are either off or on regardless of what else is on at the time. This way if you want them on with main beam you can, you just have to switch it on with the toggle switch. :)

Good luck with that fella, I'm only 6 miles down the road from you if you get stuck :) I'll PM you my mobile number if you need it.

This is exactly what i have done. Did it one sunday afternoon with relay sat inside the dash so it's kept nice and dry.

I did not realise that having them activated with full beam was illegal on the road though

It is if operated by the main beam switch. You're ok to use them on the road as long as they have a separate switch. Only really for use where oncoming vehicles are very infrequent as you need to switch them off rapido!

andyland..... will have a bash at it next week and if I get stuck or in a middle will give you a pm and cry for help lol

There a couple of Redditch 4x4 club lads near me i can also take a butchers at how they wired theirs in.....

No worries fella ... it's not difficult but needs doing properly as anything wired wrongly can upset Landy electrics dramatically!
Have fun ;)
