hello there ive had my 99 disco 2 es for about 6 months now it was ok at first but then rain started coming in through the sunroofs so ive now sealed them up still rain came in i noticed that the sponge/ rubber gaskets that mount the roof bars didnt look to healthy so i sealed round them rain still manages to get in should i now seal round the outer edges of the sunroofs & even the curved roof windows i intend to remove the headlining next spring to see if i can cure the problem and get the sunroofs back to normal thanks for any advice

Permanent fix is have the sunroof's out totally & start again.

Next spring I'm riveting chequer plate over my sunroof's-had enough now...dripo dripi drip drop on me head & it's fooked me alarm. Im making the plates over xmas...

Alpine lights never been an issue on mine, but I would imagine have 'em out & start again too to seal them properly...

the seal betwean the sunroof and the roof skin is the first place to seal then get new seals then check the drain pipes as the can snap and for me i still had a small drip so i removed the seals and stuck them in with a bit of silicone been 100% for the last 3 months and they have had a good test

Also:
the seals get a bit knackered over 10 years. Vaseline can rejuvenate them (worked for me!);
the seals can become displaced - found my rear one had come apart, so refitted it and it's been fine since;
a leak at the front can be the top of the screen rather than the roof - particularly if the sreen has been stressed a bit during fitting;
yes the Alpine lights leak as well - look for staining on the load cover.
A recent thread recommended Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure.

I'm having issues with this with a Disco I recently bought.

The front leaks on the passanger side somewhere above the sun visor, the rear through the sun roof handle and sometimes I get a leak on the 'parcel shelf' but I can't see where this is coming from.

As I have very little knowledge of Disco can someone please give me a bit of a step by step to fixing these issues?

When I open the sunroof and have a look at the black drains etc then everything looks clear. I keep being told to try and clear out the drains from the sun roof with a bit of wire but no one seems to know where they are.

Detailed help would be great - money's tight and I need it fixing.

The only cure is to remove the complete headlining and remove the sunroof trays.
Seal up the gaping gaps around the winder handle or electric motor mounting points and seal up all small holes in the pressing. Also seal where the clips hold in the roof blinds.
Remove the plastic drain pipe corners, clean off all traces od adhesive and bond back onto frame with a good quality epoxy adhesive.
Clean and refix the glass seals with sone silicone.
Also remove the outer sunroof surround and real seal around the roof and reassemble.

A lot of work, but straight forward. I have done this to the front sunroof and it worked a treat, just have to do the rear one now.

Seal around the roof bars while you are at it.

Phew

I've got a 2001MY Td5 on the ramp at the moment. The driver side A pillar leaks water in at the top of it. I've stripped out the roof lining and poured water all over the sunroof and there was no leakage at all into the vehicle. I then poured water over the upped windscreen seal on the passenger side, and a moment later water poured into the vehicle on the driver side.

Clever these chaps at Land Rover - They've managed to re-write the physics books... :doh:

Not quite sure yet how I'm going to repair it. To do it properly, you need to remove the windscreen as the upper seal fits over the top of the glass before the windscreen is glued into place.

Another worrying point is how damp the roof can get and how much condensation can build up inbetween the headlining and the metal roof. It's all going to end in tears.

I had a similar problem, about a 1cm gap between the windscreen seal & the bodywork.
Just got some bathroom silicon & sealed it - no leaks for 18 months so far

I'm not sure I'd get away with that, but, it is obviously a common problem which could easily be mistaken as a sunroof drain fault.

Merry Christmas.

Mine was leaking in the top drivers corner of the windscreen as well. Lifted the edge of the rubber trim/seal was shocked how big the gap was between screen seal and body.

Marine sealant pumped in till no more would go in. Job done. Not a drip since. Also the car is now warmer as we also noticed a cold draft along the top of the screen in that corner.

PS We still get some condensation on the rear windows but less than before.
