Decided to fit external roll cage to my 90 truck cab but unsure how it will secure underneath to the main chassis.PP cages can sell me fixing kit but no info, is it a bolt or welding job.Want front hoop to sit on wings.Has anyone any experience of this ? Any ideas appeciated.

My advice is to get hold of whitbread cages much nicer company and probably cheaper than PP. Oh and as said above cage needs to be fixed to the chassis if you want it to protect you. But if it's just for show AKA Lara Croft style cage then it doesn't matter what you fix it too.

PP make better cages. whitbreads are made of cheese compared to others. i have one and it got very bent very easily. have replaced the side rails several times. someone in my club has a pp one and it is absolutely solid, never had to touch it. and he drives hard too! The next cage i get which will be an internal one will be from them as they are not that much more expensive anyway i priced it up a while ago.

im with whitbread i thought pp were cds if so im staying well clear. red band steam barrell anyday and take the weight penalty

my whitbread cage is half the wall thickness and half the weight of others which is why it isnt as strong. I bought some cds to modify it with and it was a lot stronger so i dont know what he uses.

i always believed he used blue band or red band seamed steam barrell red is stronger than blue but with a weight penalty. I thought 4mm wall thickness and 50mm outside diameter was arc standard some people use slightly thinner 3.2mm and 44mm but thats off my head need to get the blue book out again have a read

if its not 4mm then it shouldnt be used in arc comps the scruteneer should have drilled a hole to check before certifying assuming you are running to arc rules and i have my numbers right let of look it up to make sure in not misleading myself or anyone else

i suppose it must be as i've done endless alrc ccv trials, time trials and comp safafris at all the big events! and comps with the awdc. it still seems bendier than other cages out there!

ah ok,
Nominal wall thickness 38mm blue band to bs1387,
3.2mm wall thickness and a minimum outside diameter of 48.3mm
Awdc are very easy going with respect to their cage design and mounting compared to the arc only 3mm spreader plates required for awdc where as 6mm plate needed for arc regulations and the above specs

i used to trial with the mid west off road club. bunch of hillbillies with cages made of scaffolding and trucks held together with angle iron. always a great trial and an even better laugh! No rules meant it was cheap and you could modify it any way you want. bit like awdc i suppose.
I have stopped competing with the alrc recently they have become a bit too anal for me. fed up with the constant bitching about rules and people always arguing makes a good day go bad.
Plus they dont have enough speed events (well around here anyway) so its awdc comps this year for me! Better get the beemer engine back in soon. the tide me over v8 wont last long!

i used to trial with the awdc great events quite extreme but it all went out the window for me when a lad drove a tyro section and wrote his suzuki off. They were all good lads but a few too many yee ha's in heaps they called motors. The comp safari boys love the awdc but their trial rules classes are now silly
