Evening all! Progress continues on my Defender 90 - chassis and bulkhead just got back from galvanising which is exciting!

I have also just had my Safety Devices external roll cage arrive. I am considering getting the factory coating blasted off then having the cage zinc arc sprayed and painted with a proper protective coating before fitting to my vehicle. Safety Devices tell me the cages have a zinc-enriched primer and are then powder coated black but I imagine that off-roading and scraping past branches etc. might soon scratch though this coating.

I am wondering if anyone has one of these cages fitted and whether you have noticed any rust over time - especially around the brackets under the body where the cage bolts to the chasses?

I have the 6-point welded through to chassis SD cage fitted. It's been fitted for ~4 years and shows no sign of degradation/rust. Admittedly I do no heavy off-roading that would incur scratches, but the quality of powder coating is good. I clean the Land Rover and cage regularly and wipe the cage with WD40. The underside welded cage to chassis legs are also now over sprayed with Buzzweld chassis paint where I restored my chassis last year - this is excellent glass particulate paint and provides a robust surface against stone chips. As note, it's worth buying the rubber base plate seals from SD, these fit between the cage to wing mounting points and stop the cage from scratching the bodywork.
