small snot of instant gasket on lip under bolt down flanges if that makes sense
run your finger on lip front and rear and your find 4 points slightly in even on 3.5/3.9 should be same on 4.0/4.6

Hi all

Update on my problem, while cleaning everything ready to fit back together and hoping I'd cured any tappet come oil starvation problem i decided to replace the spark plugs, on removing the left hand bank and closest to the bulk head spark plug i noticed that that cylinder was full of water when i tried to drain some water out it filled back up again, am i looking at the head removal now and i wonder if it just the head gasket or a cracked head. How easy is it to remove this head.

Andy

Yes the inlets off already and struggling with the exhaust manifold as i can only get to 7 of the 8 bolts without removing the steering shaft unless I'm missing an easier way

Hi all

Well i don't know if that was a waste of money, i took the engine apart as i had tappet noise and nearly replaced every thing lol, took both heads off had them tested cleaned and skimmed, replaced the cam tappets and oil and water pump, flushed every thing out replaced the oil, took the sump off and cleaned it, flushed and cleaned the rocker arms, put it all back together and she fired up straight away and no leaks as of yet, but still get the knocking noise, its still loud when cold and quietens down when warm, But just a thing thats puzzling me and it might be ok and should be there but when i took the sump off, on the back 2 arms as i call them on the crank shaft there where that looked like scrap marks, and i don't know if its this thats catching thats making the noise, if it is what would it be catching on.

Well both cats look ok and don't rattle but will check again just hope its not a slipped liner thats catching on the crank
