Rock sliders

Hi I'm wondering if I could use l section metal welded onto my original sills to act as sliders is this plausible as my sills are solid and I'm skint !

as solid as you may think sills are i wouldnt risk it, unless theyve ben replaced, mine looked solid till i went over some rocks and it shoved them up revealing how rusty they were.

Just had mine cut out thinking they weren't too bad. They were awful! Much worse than I expected so as the others say, go the whole hog as your sills are unlikely to be peachy

Standard sills are too thin and inherently rusty. Don't do it! It is not unusual to see doors that won't open after the sills have been bent through the force transferred to them from the slider incorrectly fixed.

Get proper bolt on sliders that secure back to the chassis or fabricate your own.

I'm making a set that will weld onto the old sill position then get mounted back onto the chassis using some 5mm thick long c section

Interesting. I'm thinking of replacing my sills with some substantial steel box section to hopefully provide a PERMANENT solution. Will i be able to run one piece from one end to the other, if I weld the posts to it? And the floor.

Should do, idea is just to support the weight and anchor them. Ones you but online clip into the sill position using bolts then mount to outriggers where you'd put steps

Can be done but like said standard sills aint strong enough.mine are good but im cutting mine out to fill box section then sliders.

i'm replacing my sills with 100x60 box section i have just contacted my local metal shop and awaiting a price on the box i'm hoping i dont have to buy a 6metre length

then i plan on fabricating some rock sliders to bolt direct to the outriggers
