Rock Slider installation Disaster....

I imported a really nice set of Rock Sliders with Tree Guards.

Took 1/2 a day removing the old corroded sills, most of the nuts and bolts either broke or had to be cut off.

The mount with the pipe that fits into the pipe on the chassis will not fit!!
It gets about 2 " in then gets jammed.
I think the chassis pipe is swollen from rust?
I tried to clean inside the pipe with a long screwdriver and tapping the mount in with a sledge hammer but still only goes in about 2 ".

Any suggestions?

run a large drill bit into the sleeve but use a drill with a clutch fitted as if it jams it could snap your wrist

Die grinder on a flexible drill shaft or welded onto a long thin rod and mounted into a drill.

I assume this on a defender?
I had the same problem but only on the left side, I got a wire brush on the end of a long rod and cleaned as much as I could but in the end it only went in after grinding the tube on the slider just enough for it to go in as it was only catching a bit

After hours and hours of grinding the inside of the pipe the mount finally slid into place.
I covered the pipe and the mount with cup grease.
Then when I went to install, the idiots sent the wrong size bolts!!!!!!!
So I went to the shop and got proper sizes and installed the left side Tomorrow I will do the other side.
Looks frikin really nice! I will post pics when its done.

what happened to the oil pressure issue ?

Rock sliders installed, and they look really nice!!

Next project will be a steering guard and a fuel tank guard.

Any suggestions as to what brand and where`to get it?

try a pm to iannotts, he makes them..

....i used a slitty transfer diff guard for my tank......

it stops the stones but could be better,,....

Hi Natas, glad you managed to get your sliders fitted. Thankfully mine went on easy enough but I did have an absolute nightmare getting the sills off.


With regards to a steering guard I fitted a rebel one, does the job and is a very reasonable price too.

My sills came off quite easy, it was the pipe that the rear mount slides into that was the trouble.
Lots of rust and swelling.

Random, the seam at the front of the tank seperated. RUST!
Lots and lots of rust:doh:

Anyhoo, FamousFour is putting a quote together for me for a coplete tank with sender,hoses,bracket.....
Might as well do the whole thing one time.
