What would you do??

I have a 2000 Reg, Diesel, Auto with 144K on the clock

I'm about to drive to Belgium, before I go I will be changing Air, Fuel and Oil filters and engine oil. I will also be changing the autobox oil and filter.

What else would you do??.......


and am I mad??
 
Make sure you have european recovery cover :D

Gearboxes have been known (in some cases) to do funny things after an oil change so maybe leave that?
Think you need 2 warning triangles, full bulb kit & 2 high-vis vests.

Yea, got all the in car stuff you need to take, Triangles, Breath test kits 12Kg of onions etc

so, leave my gearbox?? it's over due approx 5K miles?? should I do it when I get back??
 
Maybe tow something else to use as a backup vehicle when the P38 leaves you stranded somewhere? :) (joke).
 
..... and don't forget the obligatory first-aid kit and to disable the speed camera function on your sat nav. I understand that the French have finally accepted that the breathaliser idea was a bit naf and have abandoned it!

I've just returned from France - I go at least twice a year and do over 3000 miles each time - in my well-maintained, 2000 Disco2 td5 which has now clocked up over 212,000 miles with no additional preparation, and have only once had trouble and that wasn't mechanical. I've just read that your NOT in a Disco!! - Sorry, it's my age you see!

An 'undesirable' broke into my rear offside passenger quarterlight but failed to appreciate that i was only a couple of hundred metres away from the car, so got disturbed. By co-incidence, the Gendarmerie appeared from round the corner! I think they were used to trouble in that secluded beach area. I had to pay for parts and labour upfront but was reimbursed by my Insurance Company within 48 hours of me submitting the claim - the power of a Gendermerie report.

I NEVER go without European recovery - just in case.
Enjoy yourself, it's great fun in a Disco2!!

Follow the advice(s) above and enjoy driving a great car. Should have a great trip. I do many overseas trips sometimes near to the artic circle. Just back from the Isle of Skye in Scotland (over 3000 miles) and no probs at all. So relax.

Looks like you're right!

I bought a couple of these kits from Halfords when I drove to Switzerland last year. Once I got beck we tested them after a heavy night down the pub. They don't even work properly and it's almost impossible to see any colour change when using them. Rubbish!
 
I always carry a spare thermostat and a tool kit.
Spare 'old' drive belts also.
Take your laptop or have a means of getting on here just in case?

ok, so now an easy question, What is the overall height of a P38 in Crawl mode? and has anyone taken one through the tunnel?? just noticed on my ticket states max height 1.85??

Any form of speed camera warning system is now illegal in France, that includes Sat Nav's.
The Alcotest requirement is still active, about €1 to buy here, not worth the aggro you will get if you are stopped and don't have 2 in the car. Stupid idea:rolleyes:

Just wondering which route you took from isle of Man to Skye to clock up 3000miles! :eek:
 
If he's anything like my ex its cos he kept coming back to get something he forgot. :p On one occasion she went in and out the front door 7 times and me sat on the couch thought it was cute. :doh:
