contemplating a trip this year, likely Switzerland, possibly September/October, or possibly December/January for a couple of weeks, so perhaps 'only' 2000 miles give or take.

Anything I should be thinking, apart from 'why would you go in a Land Rover'?

Recent new brake pads and discs all round, gearbox has just had a filter change and drain/fill. Tyres are 'all season' and have 3PMS with plenty of tread so will be legal.

I'll do a engine oil/filter change before I go. All bushes seem OK at the mo but I'll want to change the sway bar links sooner than later as you can hear them clunk.

One thing I've not done is diff/transferbox oil changes so will need doing regardless of any trip. Oh and I've not done the diesel filter, no clue when that was last replaced or how often it needs it.

Anything else I should be thinking about? diagnostics, I've got SDD which I can take with me, but should I be 'upgrading' to the GAP thingybob?

Apparently the landy isnt eligible for Euro breakdown cover!! So I'll want to take some tools with me :D

I would take hoses and light bulbs, also check no leaks from clutch slave cylinder.
Not much to go wrong once you're warmed up and running apart from things that you use a lot like clutch and brakes
Check wheel bearings and tyres before you go and take ATF in case a leak develops :)

bulbs, good call! I've got everything I need as spares, but don't carry them routinely.
ATF is another good one, I should see what colour is in the power steering, maybe put some fresh in if it looks very old.

Travelling through France, you need to carry a warning triangle to display when (not if) you break down and high vis jackets.

Winter tyres are compulsory in some parts in winter.
I thought all season were legal? I know chains can be required on some mountain roads depending on the time of year
always thought winter tyres were optional but if you crash or get stuck with summer tyres then its automatically your fault and you get ticketed/fined?

the rules on tyres seems confusing/grey :(
"your vehicle must be fitted with four winter tyres with the M+S, MS or M&S marking, or the Alpine symbol (3PMSF) and one of the M+S markings."
"Standard all-season tyres are not considered winter tyres in any case. Official winter tyres with the Alpine symbol (3PMSF) and M+S marking fitted to your car are the safest choice. "

My tyres have both M+S and 3PMSF but are not winter tyres. The above appears to contradict, or do some all season tyres not have M+S and/or 3PMSF.. in which case I'm ok? I feel would be comfortable/safe but don't want to fall foul of the law. Appreciate the hills round here are a far cry from the Alps etc

Still not decided when I'll be going, but if the early option then tyres aren't a concern

When we drive from here to the UK we carry cheese, bread, bacon, eggs, tea, coffee and a little 1 ring gas burner ;) dont forget the cup, kettle and a pan;).

Check the rules for each country you will travel in, on tyres and chains, which don't think you can get for the L322 of that year (check handbook) we carry socks in ours. and Yes winter tyres is a legal requirement getting stuck or not in some. Which is the reason we run 2 sets of wheels, although we have been running the winter wheels all year round now as we ruin less tyres.
First aid kit vest(for everybody traveling in the car I think) and triangle (triangle should be in the car anyway std)

As for carrying spares and tools, stick with the basics cos if anything major goes you arent gonna glue it together on an L322.
I carry a Halfords suitcase thing of tools got the basics, + a few odd ,clamps ,jubilees, some wire, fluids, something to clamp around a hose in case of leak, a serp belt, battery booster and small compressor. Basically things you can use to bodge to get you too a service area/town.

At the end of the day 2000miles is not a lot for a car like that its the annoyance. We would do the 1500miles to the ferry in 24hrs. The car may have been serviced and checked before we go but nothing special.

Oh and don't forget to pay your taxes to drive in each country, alot don't need but some do, most can be brought online.

Enjoy the adventure:).

If you have "mountain's" you are fine:).

Winter tyres doesn't mean Studded;).

yes its not that far all told, but dont want to be caught out away from home and on holiday
can't do belts on the 4.4 on the roadside, though they've just been done, plus all the pulleys/tensioner (hours work!! fan off, i think ac pipes are in the way too)
wire/fluids/jubilees are a good shout.. i do carry compressor as useful on trackdays, i've got a carry bag with that kind of stuff in as the only time you need it is when you havent got it

Travelling in southern Ireland you need to carry, spare bulbs, spare eye glasses, warning triangle, first aid kit, vehicle docs, and anything else I've forgotten, never been asked or checked though

oh and a UK sticker
