Have looked and they all seem to be tax band 'M', which shows as about £425 a year to tax currently, but is it true that any vehicle registered before 23 March 2006 (with emissions higher than 225g/km I think) you only pay for band 'K', which is about £245? is this right?

Why don't you look it up on the government web site?

You are correct about the pre 2006 bit just now however if you read closely this years budget statement it appears to have the added word 'temporary' so it could be that at a moment's notice every post-2001 high emissions car will be taxed at the £400+ rate. Parker's do a good article on the ever changing tax bands.

Exactly what I'm worried about. My Td4 auto would then cost over £400 a year for tax & there's no way I'm paying any greedy government that much. Good news is car will be paid for & I'll have had over three years from it so can afford to sell cheap or scrap it & move on. 1972 Range Rover with lpg sounds ideal.
