Rising price of diesel

If you have a TD4 then it's just not going to happen at all. Forget it.
If it's an L series, then neat veg oil is too expensive to think about, and you need a good supply of waste oil to make that viable. Then you have a very ,messy process to filter it taking a lot of time and effort. Then you have to fit all sorts of heaters to the car costing £200+
Add to that increased servicing costs as the engine oil MUST be changed at least every 5k preferably 3k.

It's not as simple as you might think.

Agreed, don't bother if it's a td4. mine wouldn't start for three days when I tried a 25% mix of fresh rapeseed oil & the temperature nosedived overnight after being warm & sunny.

It's not just that- TD4s use a high pressure common rail system. These pressure force the veg oil to polymerise in the system before it even reaches the engine. The only way to clean it out would be steam cleaning or solvents. I guess it would knacker the system way before then.

Out of interest, I shall put a write up about my waste oil filtration system in the FAQ section as we don't have an alternate fuel section that I can find...
