Hi, just inherited a 1983 88 diesel and would like to put bigger rims/tyres on it without looking stupid and stressing the hubs and all. I wount be traveling far in it. At the moment it's on 205 16's which I think are standard. Any one help me out? Rgds Logman

Stick with the 205s Drive the thing for a couple of years. There will be other things to spend your money on, if after that time you like running a landie think again. I have always run on 205s and never got stuck, they are better than wide tyres when the snow comes. A lot less steering effort as well, if you feel you must 750/16 but be prepared to lose a little bit of steering lock.

I had the 205's on my s3 when I got it, they look far better with 7.50 r16's so +1 on those

205's are aesthetically too small imho, I wouldn't change the actual wheel style - I don't know about lwb rims but they still look like land rover wheels - the normal steel wheels look best on a series, not alloys or spokes imho

Nickjaxe, You have reminded me my 205s are on LWB rims. Been on so long I have forgot.

Plus 1 on the 205s. I had mud terrains 205/80 and the were good on and off road for distances I travelled. Cheap as well compared to bigger tyres. Treat yourself to a new set of 205s and new steels/wellers or something if you want a more aggressive look?
