i've seen an LUK clutch that was LUK but not EU spec (lower quality components a and thin friction material ) which means if it self destructed and killed your gearbox LUK would throw out any warranty claim you put in as its not one they sell to the UK
 
I use Rimmers a lot and have not had any issues. I do tend to mostly buy genuine LR parts although if I'm sure something is from an OEM manufacturer then I break the rule. Example would be Dunlop EAS parts, but then I did fit Arnott bags. You can get individual blend motors made by Valeo who also made the original ones in the car from new.

One very good thing about Rimmers website is the part number look up facility. So if like me you find the parts on Microcat you can just plug the number into the Rimmers search box and immediately get a price and availability. When I have an issue with my RR I tend to do a loot of research on the problem before attempting a fix rather than rely on someone else totally for advice. Another good thing about using Microcat first is that you have to put in your VIN number to use it. This means that if a part is not applicable to your cars build then it tells you just that when you click on a part in a diagram.

Parts suppliers I use and recommend are:
Rimmer Bros
Island 4x4
P38 Spares

Have also used Famous Four and Paddock Spares and of course good old E-bay for the occasional bargain. Trouble with E-bay is the numbskulls bidding way too much on stuff and not doing their research on pricing. From E-bay I have bought a brand new LR boxed CD changer for £110 then a new LR boxed Alpine head unit for £80 when at the same time used ones were on with a buy it now of £250. If there is any advice I could give someone it would be: Get copies of RAVE and MICROCAT then DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST.

Difference between the three companies you name is, from Island 4x4 you get exactly the same parts that you get from P38 spares and Rimmers but at half the price.

Famous Four are good. They do both pattern and genuine parts. The only pain is you have to call them or fax them to give credit card info - they don't have an automatic online checkout.

You can buy online with famous four.

Had to laugh at euro car parts. Not a supplier I would normally use but was passing and I wanted some magnecor ht leads. The chap behind the counter looked at me as if I was from Mars when I asked for a price. He made a phone call and was told they don't deal with magnecor!! The irony was completely lost on him as I stared at the sign emblazed on the side of the building the size of a house declaring 'Any part for any car' :)
 
I used rimmers for the first time last month, fount it was one of two places to get a full stainless exhaust for the 72,the other being double s which by everyones account are ****e.

got a full system with fannys for £460, now thats only £10 more than it cost in 1995 so it cant be bad! they also had a clutch kit, gen lr reduced from £370 to £112 so I had that too!

best bit was they had a code which gave me vat free, saved me £82 and free delivery too.

It arrived next day all present and correct. the site did duplicate my order but one email sorted that. I think you found there bad penny in that sales guy!

I use dingos on the phone if i need advice before i buy and padwanks for best price for parts i know. LR parts direct have the best site i think as you can search wth the number like on lr series but they offer bm,allmakes,gen and ****part so you can choose from all 4

To top it all off the prick who answered the phone was blaming the 'postman' for the late delivery!!! It was posted yesterday! 3 days after i orederd the ****!!

I am sorry that we sent you the wrong part and that it took a few days to arrive. I have listened to your 3 telephone conversations and have discussed what went wrong with Mark and Paul. It was an honest mistake, we did send the part by post the day after the afternoon that you placed the order. I am sorry things did not work out better but can assure you this is not our usual practice.

Firstly thanks for your post

A genuine mistake it might be but that does not excuse the manner in which it had been dealt with (By Paul as you know)

Also can you explain how someone can get confused with what should have been a £6 part with a £27.70 part as there is quite a difference between the two?

As you will have heard on the recorded voice call you have listened to i clearly stated that my particular part had a 'black' plug. I was told that there are not any black plugs anymore and that they have changed to a 'Blue' plug. This obviously isnt the case. And I have had the pleasure of losing more of my coolant trying to replace something that was never going to fit.

Lastly, How can one transaction have so many mistakes in buying one 'simple' item? For large company like Rimmer Bro's I was quite amazed by Pauls reaction when i said i wasnt going to use you again for my parts, because he quite frankly didnt give a ****!

Customer Care at its best!

Having fitted a main stealer scourced screen wash pump last year (after a new BP item lasted a whole 7 months) it never worked from the moment it was connected up! So you have to ask yourself ''where do LR have their parts made'' especially when the model in question is obsolete, I suspect in the same factory that makes the dubious pattern parts but with a LR label on the box & an inflated price tag. i like to fook with them and ask them for bits i know full well are not in production any more.... a good one is series 3 windscreen hinges

another good one is bits for jap imports or rare/oddball cars...

or my all time favourite a radiator for a 1962 VW beetle
 
my old man sent me to local supplier for a gallon of mozola got short shift off the guy behind the counter and was told all ther oil wer quality brands and nothing to do with cooking:eek:wd40 is also called monkey spunk and not to say that infront of your mother lol growing up around garages was quite enlightening
 
Admitadly I work for their main competitor, However Ive heard to many horror stories from customers on the phone. both retail and trade.
 
myself and a well known specialist on here have found that allmakes 4x4 oem spec stuff is as good or better than gen lr, usually made in the same factory with exaclty same tooling marks on it :)
 
of course oem is the same quality oem where ever bought bearmach ,britpart or all makes is original equipment manufacturer made by the same people as lr use,isnt that what oem means,i also found genuine from britpart to be reasonable too
 
Try fitting Almakes 4x4 front caliper seal kit. Nothing like OEM and about the same price as the genuine LR seal kit I had to buy a day later. As a result I hardly ever use pattern spares anymore unless it's some kind of upgrade from stock LR parts e.g. Arnott air bags.

if only that were true we would all be happier and have fuller wallets but with all the confusion of who makes what for who where you just dont know!!!!
