riddle me this...

my 98 300tdi has the cold weather pack on, heated windscreen, mirrors etc and the rear quarter panel windows as well (the ones in the boot heh).

now when I bought my disco it had some scratches down the passenger side, looks like a close call with a hedge, the seal on the quarter window looked newer than the driver's side and I noticed that the passenger window was not heated where as the drivers side was. i assumed this was because the glass got put through and a non heated window was cheaper...

however i was helping my old man load his 98 300tdi's boot and i noticed his was exactly the same; heated window on drivers and non-heated on passenger. then i looked at the guys disco down the road and its the same, both have the factory fitted glass.

wtf? they run out of passenger side heated glass or something in late 98? using up what parts they had before moving to the d2?

In my 300tdi, the heated rear glass in the boot area is on the opposite side to the driver. I've got a left hand drive, and that glass on the opposite side gives me a clear view from the drivers seat; I don't need the driver's side heated 'cause I can't look out trought it..... !!!

You sure it's heated, and not the antenna for the stereo like on the disco2?

You fools, it's an antenna and the amplifer is above in the headlining void.

thing is, the guy who bought it to my attention owns the local indy, gotta remember never to go in there and ask him for an antenna, prob walk out with a windscreen or something

Stereoooooooooo if that what is being transmitted at the time depends on the station your tuned too.

hate to admit it, but that quarter panel window `heater` was on my list of things to fix. thanks discool, you`ve saved me a job

so can you get heated rear quarter windows on a Disco 1?

I remember you used to be able to get sticky things to put on the rear windows as aftermarket extras to heat them, then have to run wires up to the front and stick a switch somewhere random on the dash. Those were the days if you bought a car it didn't often have a heated rear window, unless you went for a high spec. Don't expect you'll find any these kits around today though.

Remember them well they were made by Smiths the same people that made gauges, it came on a backing sheet, so line up then stick and peel, they lasted me around a year then I had to replace it so I did a few of them.
After that I bought an MG and the heater was an optional extra a little over £14 IIRC .. no HRW as it had a hood as they do.
Those were the days.

well I was wondering about aftermaket sticky things but for me to use them they would def have to look part of the original factory fitting not like some cheap add on.

Im sure on high end models they have the air con tubes extending from front to the back, I wonder if these double up as heater outlets? and if the extra heat in the back helps the windows from misting up. If the answer is yes as I already have front air con so im sure the upgrade wouldnt cost me that much. Ive also toyed with the idea of introducing some form heater to the boot space (to demist and keep the boot passengers cozy!)

If you have air con then you should find, as I do, it is sufficient to clear any misted glass in the disco. The ES model is top of the range and has the same a/c system as yours although there was a option for an additional a/c system installed in the boot, a bit OTT for the UK.

If you can't get the warm tempretures you require at the back then you may have a problem maybe in the ducts that exit below the cubby box. For cold a/c temps in the vehicle the flow should be switch to the dash vents.
