RH Rocker Cover Breather

I have a 4.6 HSE, the RH rocker cover has a stub pipe which connects to the plenum by a length of rubber hose. The hose was looking ropey so I swapped it out to find that the stub pipe is blocked solid, I can't even scrape the crud out. I bought a S/H pair of rocker covers so I could clean them up and swap them over but the RH one of this new pair has the right pipe but with a plastic cap on, this isn't present on the one on my car.

I have looked at the drawings on the Rimmer's site and I am now even more confused as to what my setup should look like. Should there be anything in this stub pipe? if so, what should it look like?

The stub pipe on my 97 HSE on the right (Looking from the front) goes to the air inlet on the plenum by throttle link and is clear.

The one on the left (drivers side) has a long plastic "tree" in it which is the oil catcher. Supposed to be cleaned every 12000 miles I think.

They get forgotton and carbon up which can cause uneven tickover plus pressure build up etc.

Sometimes you can get lucky with a pair of long nose pliers and gently lift it out to clean it. If not it's muller it and buy a new one (about £3 but dealer may try and sell you 10!)

Thanks Ray, your setup sounds like the spare pair of covers I've bought, the ones on my car don't seem to have the "trees". I'll get them cleaned up at the weekend and buy a couple of new trees so I can swap them over.

No probs. Let us know how you get on. Only one tree in the (UK) drivers side rocker. I think it's because the other side goes to a very narrow hole whereas the driver's side actually sucks the oil out if the seperator isn;t there.
