Hi.
I have Thanks to upgraded mobile.internet capable stereo for live sat nav and parking next to our Home Wifi signal booster this dreaded powertrain on the P38 alarm.system.

I disconnected the areal complete.
Which helped..... but .....
To lock and unlock I have to go yo the rear window very close bow.
It's annoying because this stupid system always want to press the button before you start the car. Lol.

What did other people do yo solve that problem. Apart from buying this green dot module.for 190 quit.

I thought cutting the areal wire leavening about 5 cm wire on it.

Would this be better and I could press the button from the driverseat instead going always out the car and to the window?

Unless it is possible to permanent switching this thing off and just lock or unlock and put the key in to start without pressing this button ?

@martyuk does a filter to stop the problem. Turning off the EKA and immobiliser in the BECM also helps.

I been told from a friend he knows a small garage capable of doing that.
He may even has the nanocom.

Even if you change the settings, you will still need the filter or an upgraded receiver. There is an alternative mod that involves having a second FOB that is the cheap option
 
Ah. Right. So either way I need that filter.
Any idea how much that would be ?.

The option with the second fob? How dos that work.
Surely it needs to be coded to the becm which requires nanocom ?

The second FOB activates a second receiver with a relay in the power line to the P38 receiver, so you then have to hold the button on the second FOB to switch on the P38 receiver while you lock or unlock. No coding etc required, it's just a bit of a faff having 2 FOB's
 
I bought one of Marty's filters (and very good it is too!).
It costs about 1/3 of what the official LR "Updated RF Unit" costs.
The 2nd fob "jog-unit" solution costs about £10, but it is a bit of a faff having to carry 2 remotes and keep both their batteries in good nick.

I had this on an old rav.
My mate has to press the button on his keyfob when he want to start his disco. Lol. It's a fingerbeaking task already. Lol
 
By the answers I am guessing the wire cutting options is a bad idea and dosnt solve the problem then. Lol

I've used two fobs for years, searce for post by @brianp38dse .I fitted a remote jog switch in the wire from the rf receiver to the becm so any spurious signals recieved cannot get to the becm.

Morning Dan, I've still go the same battery in the cheapo jog switch,it's a proper one not like the 2025's in the RR remote which last 10 minutes in mine. I replaced them last week And its dead again. I replaced the batteries in the three remotes for the black car and they are still working so I dont think its the batteries, exp.date 2030Panasonic.

Maybe send the fob of to MrSporty? I had mine refurbed, proper good it is.

If he's in Peterborough then it's been there twice,once to refurb and the second time because the batteries were running down. I've just changed the battery holder for one of the other ones that wasn't discharging see how it goes. The bottom battery was down to 1.3 v the top was 3.2 v they were both 3.2v a couple of days ago.I HATE electrickery.:mad:
 
The fob filters we do are available on my website - p38webshop.co.uk and are £79.99 plus postage.

The whole press remote thing is part of the passive immobiliser, which can be switched off with a nanocom etc. It uses the coil around the ignition barrel to excite an inductor in the fob, and this then tells the fob to send an unlock code. If the code doesn't get through, or the coil is faulty, then it won't start. Bad RF interference can also stop the transmission that's sent from being read/received properly. The filter unit we make (and also the LR receiver) basically sifts through the RF data. If it sees a valid p38 fob transmission, then it will pass that onto the BECM and wake it up for it to check that it's valid for the vehicle. If it doesn't recognise it as a valid P38 fob, then it doesn't wake the BECM.

The older models of receiver didn't have this check in them and woke the BECM for EVERYTHING - which is why the battery drains quicker if the BECM is constantly being kept awake.
