Rev counter prob in RR classic

can anyone tell me where the tacho gets its feed from? the manual isn't
clear. Mine isn't working at all. The + feed is fine as the other gauges
work but not the tacho. its on an 86 RR Classic 3.5 EFI

Either the "-" terminal of the coil or the Alternator

thanks Lee, that may explain why there is a wire wrapped round my coil
terminal instead of having a plug on it. There is a couple of loose wires on
that loom too so i'll check these out as possibilities
