Rev counter not working and battery light on...

But when I rev to about 3000rpm counter works and battery light goes out but then
Sometimes it works fine?

Any ideas?

I've checked connections and cleaned them and soaked it in wd40!
And I went thru some deep water last weekend?

That's what I fort lol,

Have read some were on tinternet bout by passing viscous van and silly squeaky tensioner thingy any one done this might do it while belt is off?

I've never heard of it before reading your link but if you insert a penny or washer behind the tensioner and in the 9 o clock position it will stop the squealin in many cases.

Do a search for 'penny trick';)
 
Will try that first does look like. A bit of a pain tensioning on alternator

Will try penny trick but am defiantly taking my air con off
 
Before you replace the alt, check it isn't just the small connection that needs re-making to the lead and cleaning up.
 
Does the terminal go onto the 'W' on the alternator, that's how I wired a Tachometer to my 200tdi Defender, if so, as above sounds like a knackered alternator
 
Went and picked second hand alternator mate gave me a lift he dropped me at work and rang me bout an hour later saying he'd fitted the alternator and it's working fine. I didnt even ask him to do it, he said he was bored and just did it lol
