Right basically I've got a early disco 2 td5 manual and I want difflock. It's got the spigot on top of the transfer so should have all the bits in there that I need. So my question is what do I need off a disco 1? Obviously I need the gear knob and difflock cable but some people say you need the "transfer tunnel"? Any advice welcome! Thanks

Hi I've just fitted one to my d2 it's not to bad a job to do. You will need all of the difflock linkage off a d1 eg gear sticks down. D1 uses bars instead of cables. Will try to post some pictures of what you need to do the job. Well worth doing as now have difflock and traction control.

Hope it helps:D

There are two methods of doing this ....

You could use the proper LR diff lock linkage for a Disco 2

www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock

Or you could use a recovered Disco1 linkage ....

www.discovery2.co.uk / Disco 1 CDL into a Disco 2

And your next job is to get yourself over to the "Introduce Yourself" section and er .... um .... introduce yourself before you get yourself pounced upon. Newbie baiting is an accepted enjoyment, especially if they don't introduce themselves in the proper manner.

If you dont get the tunnel cover plate and gaiter then water and mud can get inside the car.

Previously to a cable operated lever being fitted this car had a D1 lever without the gaiter. A large hole had been cut in the original cover plate which, if you look closely, let in a flood of much and water. ( i cleaned most of it off ).

When I bought mine I didn't realise you could buy a D2 without a centre diff lock.

D1s had them. Took a TD5 for a test drive, saw diff lock thought nothing of it.

No other Discoverys 2 for sale for miles, only F1, D3 and L322, so had to buy the TD5.

As some people here know mine was a distress purchase after an RTA
