Replacing the Front Crank Seal

Hello

I need to withdraw the crankshaft pulley in order to replace the front crank oil seal, but the starter dog is completely solid.
My question: does it use a clockwise thread or is it counter clockwise?

its C/W but very tight, the last one i did i weged the soket off the chasis and prest the starter! Not for the faint harted!

i KNO its not good practice, but i used a 1" heavy cold chisle on mine, it will exert more pressure to one point than anything , bout a tonne to one corner, use it on the hex point then hit it clean and hard, just keep at it till it goes, yer might loose all the corners so yer can order one from LR series
i used a air impact gun 1" drive and a blow torch , nothing shifts it like a chisle, then yer need some big pullers for the pully

dunno bout the starter motor method , not fer me

Put my 3/4 drive socket on to mine. Gave the socket handle an almighty belt with a lump hammer - it was enough to shock it loose...

the first one i did were ok , it went with a 3/4 drive socket but the last one wer a bastid

A 1" whit ring spanner and a long handled lump hammer, submission on the second blow.

Just another thought, if the pulley has a groove worn in it around £10 buys a new one and prevents the bugger leaking again after a week !

A 1" air gun also works

The 3/4 socket with tommy bar on the chassis gets it off without damage,just a touch on the starter.

While you are replacing the seal do yourself a favor and drill out the rivets holding the mudshield on over the crank seal and replace them with machine screws - tap the holes to put the screws into - don't use nuts! . This way, the next time you need to do that miserable seal you'll be able to do it without removing the front cover to get the seal out - undoing the screws, removing the mudshield and prising out the seal is a matter of minutes.

When reinstalling the pulley do yourself a big favor there too and copperslip the hell out of the nose of the crankshaft - you'll thank yourself a few years from now when it slips off with no fight.

Nice long breaker bar and lift front up to give loads of room finally got mine off. That seal is a pain make sure sits in correctly as had to re do mine as had a small leak and see wasn't sitting correctly.

Well that looks fun, advice on how to remove the seal next?

holds it in place and keeps some dirt from seal ,it was normal practice to refit with self tapping screws lr used to supply them as a part

Now i notice the oil leak from the back!

TD5!! anyone got any tips on how to remove the CRANKshaft front oil seal from the timing chain cover? Book says need a special tool...hopefully not..
Secondly any advice on whether its ok to resuse stiffener bolts that hold the oil pump assembly to block? Just removed and were not torqued very high and not a stretch bolt so dont see a prob with reusing...but many wiser men and women on here than me!
