Hi, Can anyone confirm that a Serpentine engine, which I had to take out of my Disco can be replaced with a NON Serpentine engine and I can switch the timing case, oil pump, pulleys etc to make the Non Serp engine into a Serp? If you get my drift. I understood that the Crankshaft was slightly different but have been told on this forum that it is possible! Thanks for any help and Sorry if YOU were the one who told me and I am doubting you. Regards, Graham.

Do you already have a donor engine?
The reason I ask is that I just listed a 3.9 serpentine engine on a well known auction site today. Item number: 320867966785.
Half price for LandyZone member. Nudge-nudge-wink-wink.
PM me if interested.

Hi,

As said above the serpentine v8's have a longer crank nose as i think the timing case is deeper to accomodate for the crank driven oil pump, and the vee belt (pre serp) v8's have the distributor driven oil pump.

Lots of people have 4.0 and 4.6 v8's with the older style timing case then fit a spacer on the end of the crank nose between the front of the pulley and the crank bolt.

I was thinking about fitting a serp front end and fitting to my pre-serp 4.2 and when enquiring about it they said if the keyway is machined longer it can then drive the crank driven oil pump.

It would therefore need a full stripdown and machine work to enable you to do this, so it would probably be cheaper to just find a serp v8.

Hi GKM24,

Replace the old serp engine with a replacement serp engine mate....a far better idea in my view, a superior engine, and the half price offer of £150 buy-it-now to landyzone members is a good un...saves you messing around with dremels too etc

Thanks for all your replies and ideas. I have the engine already fitted into The Disco and am somewhat reluctant to remove it again. I think I will carry on fitting this(old style) engine but keep all the good Serp parts from the old engine just in case I really, really have to remove it again. As far as I can remember, this engine is a good one and I only need the Disco for towing the boat occasionally plus it is fitted with LPG kit. The engine has been in my garage for about 5 years, so has not really cost me anything (well I forgot how much it cost rather)and if I spend out on another engine, the missus will go ballistic. She does have a point though and I have promised to sell some of my other 4 cars and 6 boats! I found the connectors for the oil cooler at "Rally Nuts" so the installation is gathering momentum again. Cheers for your help and support.:)
