Replacing chip in Freelander 1 key

I have two keys but only one contains a chip. The non chip key works more smoothly in the locks so I would like to swap the chip from one key to the other. Anyone have any advice or videos on how to open the key blank without damaging it?

Thanks. Yes, I was concerned about damaging it but it prised open ok.

Penknife blade (used gently) works well.

If you can find anyone on the planet that can make replacement key chips please post details!!

Presuming someone sourced the chips, do we as a community have the technology to program/code the new key chips to the immobiliser?

I can buy chips but chips must match the programming solution.
My knowledge on the matter ends there !!
A rolling code is used and my Timpsons couldn't help but other timpsons have.

I bought a £350 programmer that was supposed to work but didn't.

This will be an issue if we can't crack this one ! Keys are getting lost and broken.

Yeah, I'm down to one key for mine... So I've kind of got a vested interest in seeing something come to fruition. There's plenty of ID46 chips on eBay marked for land rover, but I've not got the toys to play with them. Since you've got those toys already, it might be worth you time splurging ten or twenty quid on a couple of pairs of those chips and seeing what ECU's you can code chips to with what toys. You're the ideal man for this as you own about a third of the freelanders in the country And at least one of every engine and possibly every engine gearbox combo?

By far the easiest way around this is to remove the transponder from the key, and tape in close to the coil in the ignition lock. Then simply getting a replacement blade will solve the issue.
Obviously the immobiliser won't work correctly, but unless the alarm isn't set, the vehicle will still make a noise if someone breaks in.

How about someone with the skills necessary takes a look and reads all the info to date, above ref thread included. Then makes a proposal to the members to see who wants to sponsor the solution ??

The immo can be hacked to accept a chip that didn't come from Landrover, but, to do this the immo has to be removed from the vehicle which means removing the dash top.
It's much easier just to buy a new key from Landrover which they can supply with a chip already coded to the vehicle.
