Hi, just succeeded in replacing the Alpine 6CD changer on my Disco 2 ES with an MP3 flash drive, so thought I'd post my findings.

Car was fitted with the high end H-K set up including an Alpine XQE100240 mulichanger, driven by the 10 pin BMW connector (marked AMP 1-929270-2A, BMW 1 383 873). No kits for iPods or MP3 players are readily available to match this plug, but they are for the more common BMW 6 pin/3 pin plug combo.

The good people at Grom audio gave me this link that shows this problem is shared with the L322 Range Rover. This shows that you can remove pins from the 10 pin unit and slot them straight into the 6 pin/3 pin pair, but it doesn't give you a pin map. This I figured out from the LR manual and some internet searching, as well as more help from Grom

The pins map across as shown below for my Disco. Please excuse the crude table.

Pin no.**Colour****Function*************New BMW 6 pin or 3 pin
1*******white*****audio right +***********'6 pin' pin 4
2*******black*****audio right -*********** '6 pin' pin 5
3*******orange***purpose unknown*******not used
4****************empty
5*******green*****IBUS******************'3 pin' pin 3
6*******red*******audio left +***********'6 pin' pin 1
7*******grey******audio left -************'6 pin' pin 2
8*******brown****audio earth***********'3 pin' pin 1
9 ****************empty
10*****purple*****audio power+**********'3 pin' pin 2

I bought a 2nd hand BMW cd changer loom on eBay to salvage the plugs. Swapping pins across took no more than a 1/2 hour. Individual pin numbers are on the plugs, but you may need a magnifying glass to read them if your eyesight is like mine. Having done this I can now drive a cheap Yatour MP3 flash drive directly in place of the CD changer (which was starting to malfunction). You can only have 6 playlist folders on the drive as that is all the head unit expects, but the steering wheel button functions are preserved and each folder can have lots of individual tracks in it. In time I'll look at fitting a Grom unit, as I suspect they have more functionality.

Note the Yatour unit has an optional jumper between unit power earth and audio earth, which it suggests can be joined in the event of noise interference. I did get noise and so have connected the link to eliminate the problem.

Hope this is useful to someone.
