Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has replaced the standard drivers door motor on a disco 1 (2 door) with an after market 5 wire door motor?
If so did it work ok? and any help on the wiring.
Thanks in advanced guys.
Alex.

Kinda.

I have recently had hassle with this. My disco had an assortment of original and aftermarket motors, some worked some not.

I bought 4 new heavy duty motors to sort it out once and for all.

The drivers door is key operated, so these were for the 3 door and tailgate.

Only the tailgate works, the other three doors will only unlock, as even the heavy duty motors are not man enough to operate the locks in the locking direction.

They are alright if you don't fit the infamous door lock spring, but they went strong enough in the 'push' direction to overcome the spring. And these were HD double the price motors.

Only genuine LR are strong enough but they're mega expensive, so now I manage with central unlocking and lock each door manually before I get out the car.

Hope that helps.

Ps. Try it on your car, but on mine all the locks were too stiff.

Cheers

The actuarors that Maplin sell work ok in disco doors but u will have to cut the plug off and solder, i've had acuators fail past they are easy to repair as it's usually down to lack of lubrication of the motor and sliding rod.

My doors broke a couple of motors, stripped the gears by the feel of it. Asi say though, my mechanisms could be unusually stiff, couldn't improve them though.
