Replaced tailgate actuator but tailgate still won’t open. Any ideas what I can do?

Tailgate wouldn’t open so I did the ‘get in the boot job’, spent a good out or so getting the boot open from the inside then fitting the actuator. Double checked the plug connection, put everything back together and boot still won’t open. I checked the cable and that looked fine. Apart from taking it all apart again and checking the connection I don’t know what else I can do.

The upper tailgate won’t open. The button on the bottom tailgate worked when I managed to get the top tailgate to open. So the issue is the upper tailgate not opening.

Hi

maybe the handle itself has failed , best to check using a multimeter to ensure power is getting to the switch, have seen on many occasions a broken wire or bad earth

also the micro switch might just need cleaning

what year is ur D4 plse

hope that also helps

Thank you. Discovery is 2010. How do you go about cleaning the micro switch?

Appreciate the help.

many thks and ur so welcome , always a team effort

have u also checked under the passenger side front seat plse as a supply comes from the FET ( fuse box ) to a connector under the seat then onto the tailgate

plse ensure u have power at the tailgate switch , might have to pull the connector apart if power isn’t going through it

hope that also helps

Thank you. Much appreciated. I’ve got a few things to work through now 😂👍🏽

See if this is correct regarding the tailgate connector

before I forget , if u can get someone to sit in the seat , ign on , push both the lock / unlock buttons for 5 x seconds to see if the tailgate opens plse

also the earths are very important seeing it goes down to ground when the switch is pressed , they are located left hand side of the boot behind the side locker

if it is the micro switch don’t forget it’s a ford part

Thanks mate. I’ll check that. The only thing with the Discovery 4 is that it doesn’t have the unlock/lock button on the centre console. It has them on the door panel and they can’t be pressed together.
