carrying on from my big stripdown thread......
I need to remove the rear springs on my 300tdi to get at the chassis to weld it.

is it just a case of putting stands under the jacked up body, undoing the shock, and lowering the axle on one side till there's enough clearance to pull the spring out ??

do i need to undo/remove anything else??

is anything likely to 'boing' and tw*t me on the head ?

cheers

yes just undo shocks, if you need any extra place a bottle jack between axle and chassis

where would be the best/safest place to put the axle stands under the chassis ?

Under the 'flat' bit ?, just before the rear starts to raise, or more towards the rear end somewhere?

Done this on my front end today. I put them on the flat bit just before the rails start to raise, they were fine there. jacked up opposite side of the axle onto a stand and gently lowered other end down until it just hung. Lowered jack a bit more to give clearance then got the missus to stand on the end while i gently prised the spring out from the bottom with a bar. Easy peasy! Just mind your brake lines arent being stretched and have some wood or something under your disc just in case it hits the floor

wood sounds a good idea.

deffo got hole. been over chassis with hammer ........ and welder, got the awkward bits to do now !!

not worried about the brake lines, will be replacing them.
