Removing Door Glass

Hi all,

I'm currently repairing the door bottoms on my 90 although behind the glass I there is a corroded piece of metal which rattles like anything unless I have the window fully wound down. While the door is on the workbench I'd like to remove it but I cant without taking the glass off. I've had a little tinker but cant work it out, what am i missing??

The plate that the window mech is bolted to has 6 or 8 bolts holding it to the door once removed lift plate and the rubber sliders the connect to the winnow rail can be pulled out, then take window out through bottom of the door may need a bit of a jiggle

Just a tip - When you reassemble it all, check the routing for the push rod that operates the inner door handle. If you get it wrong (like wot I did), you'll end up opening the door every time you wind the window down!!

Cheers guys, although presumably ill also have to remove the window guides each side of the door to remove the glass, or am i just being a bit dim.. I cant see how there attached?

The window channels are just screwed with self tappers onto the door frame around the top and onto thin metal strips that run down either side of the lower door. Mine were pretty well knackered so I just ripped them out and replaced with generic rubber window channel that I got from woolies-trim.co.uk at about £2.80/metre.

I would have thought that with a bit of "wiggling" you should be able to withdraw the glass from the bottom of the runners, or just unscrew the last few inches of channel and bend it out of the way.

While your there check the window regulator for wear,teeth often gone or nearly gone at the point where window is nearly closed.Not expensive to replace.

Cheers chaps, I was a bit reluctant to try and take off the window channel bacause the screws are pretty corroded and ive not really got time to fit new channel at the moment; although after chopping the door bottom off to weld the new section in it came out a treat!
