Windscreen glass removal

Removing glass from windscreen, last time I did this I got a shattered piece of glass.
Trying not to repeat that again is there a good vid on the procedure? I have looked not finding.
A line wrapped around the seal twice but devil being in the detail here with the internal metal safety piece I believe.
Any suggestions?

As it needs a new seal. I would cut it out with a Stanley knife, maybe a hooked blade down the line.

THIS^^

There is no way you will be able to reuse that seal so just cut around the outside with a stanley knife with the screen supported on the inside. it will then take very little pressure to push out the screen.

Refitting the screen is a very different kettle of fish. I have used the string methos but the last one i did i had the frame removed similar to you and put everything flat with the frame on top and just worked the seal around the frame with a couple of small screwdrivers and lots of fairy liquid.

And fit it on a warm day so the frame expands a bit, every little helps

Probably my mistake was trying to push out from inside I am assuming.
The frame will be repainted when warm weather arrives eventually.
& assuming glass new seal wold be installed from inside, will be warm after this is painted.

The screen is installed from the outside, seal goes on the windscreen first.

Get a heated screen fitted by a profesional?

And don’t buy blue box windscreen seal. They used to be crap

I watched the man change the windscreen on my Land Rover and there were a few things I noticed that made it easier. First he put the rubber onto the glass first, before attempting to get the whole thing into the metal frame. He had a spray bottle of soap for lubrication, which he applied throughput the task. Rather than just string, he had a length of cord that was about 1/4" in diameter and very soft which he wrapped right round the groove in the rubber and overlapped by about 6" at the bottom. He got the rubber engaged at the top first and then made sure the sides were evenly lined up before trying to get too much of the rubber engaged. And in it went, very quickly and easily. There was a little work at the sides with a thing that looked like a fish filleting knife and that was all there was to it, whilst we chatted about his kids going off to college. If I ever have to do the job myself I'll try and mimic the technique, but it was so fast I could hardly keep up.

I have that tool likely last year Replaced glass gasket on sunroom large pieces of glass rubber gasket with expanding strip, like the rear windows on truck almost. Tool was semi hard plastic.
I likely will get the LandRover gasket.
All of which needs to wait for warm weather.

After cutting off the inside of seal the frame just dropped out of frame.
I thought the Xmod frames had an internal interference strip in the frame, did not have a photo.
Eventually when I get around to painting the frame.

As others have said above, slice the rubber to remove. Pay a local w/screen fitter to put the new one in.
I had a go and cracked the screen...

I paid £70 for a windscreen fitter to put mine in. I’m happy to tackle any job on the old girl, but this was £70 I really didn’t mind parting with!

The wife and me did ours, took 10 minutes. String, Fairy and a nylon pry tool. The seal took longer to orientate.

I have a new LR seal here if you are interested. Bought in error.
