Removing a starter motor on a 2.25 petrol ex mod

Hi there,

I'm having a few issues with my starter motor, it's just spinning round without engaging the engine. I have now hit it and it works again!

I was however in the process of dismantling it and is say its the most difficult thing to get at on my land rover!

I have one question because I got the bottom nut off and the one connecting to the live wire but the top nut came of a couple of turns and then the bolt thread that its attached to started turning. I can't see behind it to work out whether there's someway of holding from behind, it feels like there's an Allen key fitting but I could get that to work, or had the thread just sheared?

I believe its just a threaded stud, I would take the nut off complete with stud and dismantle afterwards. You could then refit the stud with some locking compound and then refit the starter.
