I'm thinking of having a remap or ronbox/tuning box so just wondered if any one has had either of them done and what was the outcome on mpg as that is what I'm interested in the most thanks

Mine's been remapped, but I went for a power map, but actually my mpg is no worse and I have more fun, so win win

I went for more of an Eco remap, so more low down torque. It is difficult to say what has happened to the mpg as I haven't driven it on normal trips. Driving a barn door at high speeds is never going to give a great return on fuel consumption, along with lots of weight on board and bikes on the back. Also the weather has been pretty, well, err, windy and very wet on my trip up to Skye, so not a very good indicator of what it will be like in normal driving conditions at home. As I have never driven this car in these conditions before I have nothing to compare with.

The extra torque low down is very noticeable and welcome.

I had a Ronbox on before the remap and it did make a difference.

Maybe I'll put the Ronbox on for a day when I get back home, to see what the difference is when the 2 are together :D

I'm starting to think that maybe I should've gone for a more torquey map, its noticeably more torquey, but, room for more I think

Been running with a ronbox 2e for 4 years , with other mods done , and keeping to 60mph on a run , I found mpg did improve , 5 to 10 mpg depending on conditions and my right foot , I drove a mates standard td4 the other day , it seemed a little less responsive , but no dramitics between both :D

I've got a 2001 Td4 with the RonBox Synergy 2a.
Mpg is up to around 49mpg but I do around 5 miles a week in stop start traffic all the rest is country roads.
I do admit I have a heavy foot but I've been trying to treat it delicately to avoid wheel spin as it's temporarily in 2wd until I replace the VCU.
My low fuel consumption might also be down to the K&N air filter, EGR valve removal & BMW cyclone oil separator all helping to make the engine run better.

My remapped auto also has the BMW cyclone filter, the EGR bypass and silicon hoses as well as a pipercross air filter.

I've been struggling to get decent fuel economy due to 20% hills, windy roads and an average wind speed of over 20mph all the time. No to mention the rain. We had a storm which cut power to half the island on Wednesday night. There is quite a lot of snow on the mountain peaks, but none lower down, but there was hail and sleet on the way to Ord earlier and the temp was 2degrees.

The most I have to put up with is a bit of a sea breeze & the odd light shower!
Thinking about it I hardly put any miles on my car, and my motorbike does less than 2k each year!

Thanks for all the replies ... I already have the egr blanked and BMW cyclone fitted, so I have just ordered a new Ron box 2a with the pierburgh maff also got K&N air filter on its way so hopefully might get chance to fit it all on Saturday if they arrive before then....it will be interesting to see what the mpg figures will be.

Whereabouts in East Sussex?

I'm down that way on a fairly regular basis. (When I'm not on holiday, 700 miles away from Eastbourne area, on the Isle of Skye :D )

Has your intake manifold been cleared of all the crap ?

I cleaned the manifold a couple of months ago what a messy job that was...I bought it with faulty injectors so i had them reconditioned with new nozzles etc so its running clean no smoke no matter how hard I push it.. cant wait to fit everything and see how different/responsive it is hopefully!!!!
