I have seen many references to the problems refilling the steering relay with oil.
There is no filler plug on my one and I could only remove one top cover bolt [1/4 BSF!]. When this was off, it would only take a couple of drips of oil a day! The two side ones are just too long & wouldn’t quite come out as they hit the steering link. The back one, I can put my finger on it but I can’t see it [without a mirror]. My one has the air filter just above the relay, so I can only get one hand at a time in.
I tried taking out the only lower fixing bolt that I can get to.... That was a blind hole. :suspicious:
I tried removing the upper relay lever [to get access to the rear bolt] but could only get it as far as the top of the spline, and I didn’t want to hammer it too much [probably end up busting up all the steering joints].
I was beginning to think I would never be able to get oil back in there.
In the end I separated the ball joint below the relay [so I can turn the relay with the wheels on the ground - to get to the other bolt]- [could have jacked up the front of the car], drifted the relay lever back up to the top of the spline. This gave me a couple of extra millimetres to get the left hand cover bolt out.
I then poured a bit of EP90 into the front bolt hole. Bingo.
It took 20mL [in one forum, he reckoned he got 60mL in]

Btw, the lever pinch bolt is free to turn in the lever, so I needed to put a spanner on the bolt when undoing the nut [remember I can only get one hand at a time in there!] and - the bolt had a different size head to the nut!!! [11/16 & 5/8 I think]. Who’s idea was that?
