... I seemed to have opened a can of worms ..

Dont have much in the way of recovery gear atm , but im adverse in winching and direction pulls .. and so on , use that at work ( im a specialist rescue technician for the brigade ) ..

I am about to order some strops , and a few other bits , and about to fit a winch ..

It was where to snatch from which had got me , Im sure I had read on a few places not to snatch from the tow ball of types .. my tow ball has a bike rack adaptor fitted to it and is one of those adjustable height ones , so im unsure if snatching from there would be wise .. I do like the idea of snatching from a J rings direct to the chassis as mentioned above as it seems like the better choice ..
.
jate rings snatch from one chassis leg even if you use 2 by a strop

The tow ball is best, IF, it is a good one, and if it is mounted on a short drop plate with brackets back to chassis, and all bolts to be 8.8 minimum.

If you want a rear point to snatch from fit a nato tow pintle (correctly with the spreader and packer plates) direct to the cross member. You do not get a more solid rear recovery point than that (you can get rings that mount in the same point but you then cant use it for towing a nato trailer). that is the only reason I fitted one to mine and have since used it several times for towing sankeys as well, and if you tow bar is fitted correctly you can have a standard drop hitch and a nato pintle and both still be usable.
