Yep flops is right ,don't buy a recon [wot-ever that means] by a genuine new un, the money you think your saving could come back un kick yer :D :) :)

I can recommend Dave for gearboxes, don't know about VCUs though, I didn't think there was much in them to recondition.

Thanks for the quick response.

I took her out for a bit of a run this afternoon with some tippex on the VCU.

The two line have moved apart, so the unit isn't seized. I know that this isn't a conclusive test, but I think I'll keep an eye on it until the next service and get the local garage to change the VCU as part of the service.

if yu wanna spend yu money - why not buy wun, monitor the vcu and change it as soon as yu find it has siezed.

dont furget tho - it can fail in a "no drive" way to.

Nope.

What are the strange patterns of which you speak? People describe blocking/castellation/indexing, which I call "uppy-and-downy-on-the-outer-treads"

Have you tried swapping the tyres around? Front to back and then left-to-right?

Cheers

The inside edge of the tyre looks to be more worn, and the tread blocks are wearing unevenly front to rear on the same tyre (they are now slightly wedge shaped).

I haven't tried swapping the tyres, will try at the weekend.
