I've been told that I'm likely to need a gearbox for my Disco. I can't afford a new one, so was thinking down the lines of a reconditioned one.

Can someone point me in the right direction please ???

I have a TD5 ES 02 plate, what series is that? A 2?
Anyone able to recommend somewhere to get the gearbox?

I have a good mechanic, he just doesn't have the time to source one for me.

Any help greatly appreciated.

This is my 4th Landy over the years, but it's the worst one!

Jumping out of gear occasionally. Makes a hell of a noise (especially when cold) if I pull away from stationary going uphill. I need to put my handbrake on every time now. Also from reverse, if I don't come to a complete halt before engaging first, get a weird loud whirring noise. I know I've got a leak in my transfer box too.

It had a new clutch and a new clutch master cylinder last year. So clutch should be ok. Sometimes when it makes the noise it won't stop until I take it out of gear.

Did it have a new dual mass flywheel fitted with the clutch, also was the spigot bearing replaced?,common source of noise when clutch is depressed is often down to said spigot bearing

Thanks, been online looking, prices varying immensely. Think I'd rather pay a wee bit more and get one with a warranty though. I saw some gearboxes with transfer boxes, kinda thought they were linked, so thanks for that.

I've been doing a bit of reading on the forum today since joining, one other member had a noise which sounded similar when clutch depressed , and spigot bearing was mentioned. I'll ask mechanic if the dual mass flywheel was fitted too. Thanks, finally think I'm getting somewhere with all the problems this Landy has!

2nd hand you may get t.box as well but check price ,as mr henryd said get spigot bush changed at same time ,and dont try reverse till car is stopped ,nearlly every box i do needs a new reverse gear becasuse of hasty selection ,
