Interesting reading about the Kamasa failings. I have a Kamasa socket set that's 21 years old and most of it is still going strong. In fact thinking about it - ALL of the bits that have broken have been down to me using them for things they weren't designed for! (Ratchet handle as a hammer, extension bar as a drift, etc.)

I've just bought a set of Halfords ratchet spanners and I'm really impressed with them.

I also like Facom stuff.

For bigger sizes, just buy them as you need them. My local motor factor sell Draper and I inevitably end up there when I need something in a hurry. They do seem fine for the money.

My friend bought a "Professional" Halfords socket set a few months back as he literally has no tools at all. I was not impressed at all with the quality. 2 of the bits broke. I was not exactly doing things which were ridiculously tight either. Luckily I had my £16.00 Sealey socket set which I have had for years and that didnt struggle at all.

I also have a (non-professional) Halfords socket set...which really is superb, has coped with doing things that it shouldn't too...perhaps I was just unlucky with the recent. My favourite socket set though is my Elora...thats a very well built bit of kit, have a set with metric and imperial. Slightly pricey though!

Did your friend keep the receipt? (lifetime guarantee)

halfords get my vote to good stuff for the price of it, only thing iv ever broke from there is a 1/2 braker bar, (mite be some thing to do with having a 6foot scaff bar on the end though :D)

if you have used snap-on/mac/britool you might think differently
Absolutely they are real beauties but you pay for it.Teng tools are good, they replaced afive year old breaker bar no probs although it had obviously been abused.:DI like to collect old spanners at autojumbles and farm sales as its handy to have some to grind, weld,or cut off for hard to reach jobs.Quality tools last alifetime if they dont get nicked!:)

Halfords socket set gets my vote to.
My dad who's a retired mechanic and confirmed brittool user was even impressed by the halfords stuff!

Halfords don't have the deal on the 150 piece atm, i went it to get it the other day and it's back to £199.

They have got the 120 piece for £89 from £130

I got the 150 piece set from Halfords whilst it was on offer at £99, I'm very pleased with it.
Previously I had a Kamasa set bought when i was 15, so thats 27 years of service, everything still works in that set, I just decided it was time for a change.

i use mostly snap on stuff but then again i am a pro mechanic, you could try teng or facom as they are mid range tools.
teng arent that bad either its the only ratchet ive ever had that i aint managed to carrot the fookin 3/8" drive lug off yet but stay away from the halfords telescopic strong bar its like fukkin lead and they say you cant break a snap on 3ft strongbar me brother did swingin off it while the car was up on the ramp bar shattered half went through the roof some bounced over the highstreet and the socket stayed on the hub fookin lethal but strong **** and they replaced it on the spot

Went and had a look in Halfords today!
120 piece set on special at £89.99 with 15% off shelf price till Sunday :)
Also got their professional screwdriver set for £2.50 when I bought new Haynes manual for the Landy :clap2:
