hi all
looking to replace my rocker shaft and rockers, in my 3.9 , anybody got any companies they recommend to go to or to stay away from? and all the kits i have seen don't appear to come with the springs ? :s

Spoke to them just now and said they dont so them any more :( , theres a few kits on ebay for around £65 , but they dont come with springs that space the rockers should i just use the old ones?

ive heard the current new ones available are so bad you are best off sticking with your old ones unless they are completly fooked

I'm agreeing with fett...Replaced my rocker arms and shafts and since have seen a drop in oil pressure. Going to swap back when i get the time. A good low mileage set is probably a better bet

Shame the repro ones are so bad :(

What about v8 tuner? They list a lot of American stuff to fit or to convert to fit to RV8, maybe they know of something American that will fit?

What's worn on yours?

yeah somone said the chinese factory that makes em took the moulds from parts that had done well over 100k miles lol

not to sure whats actually worn yet, by the sound i think its the rocker as you can hear through oil filler, and 2mechanics i have asked said most likely rocker, the cars done like 164k so i think they are just worn out lol :/ then probably gonna need a cam aswell eventually but hope it just rockers alot easier and cheaper ! Why would they take castings from 100k rockers fools!

Personally, when i had tappet noise on my old engine, i think it was down to cam wear and worn tappets as opposed to bad rockers.

at 164k im afraid that even in my limited experience i expect it will need a fair bit more than a rocker set.

carry out a compression test to see how things are and go from there. why not do a top end rebuild and sling a cam in it if the compression results are ok? nice cheap easy way to keep her running for a while longer, no need to throw megabucks at every engine :)

i think its more of a visual inspection required. easy job to remove the rocker shafts though tbh, easier than getting to the rocker covers in the first place!!

I say go for it dude.

I had never touched an engine internally (oo er missus) until a few weeks ago whet with the help of the LZ experts I had one in bits. And I was amazed at how simple an engine it was.

Get the radiator out and start pulling stuff off, you don't need to take the heads off to change the cam. All depends on the compression test though really.

Some experts would have me shot for suggesting fitting new valve train without doing any bottom end work but its up to you really. It will never be as good or as long lasting as a full rebuild but you will get your performance and smooth quiet valve train back.

Having said that it makes sense to do it all at once, and once you've started the job can go on and on :D

Take it in stages but get the rocker covers off (need the plenum cover off) and get some decent pics up :)

Cheers.
