My 4.6 P38 is currently shod with 255 55 18's that are borderline, and so I thought to fit winter tyres that are appropriate to my circumstances.

The car is used on the road only, will cover roughly 60 miles per week and will encounter the usual ice, frost and snow, though nothing too severe (hopefully).

Should I bother with 'winter' tyres or should I simply fit new boots all round and hope that the new tread depth will get me by.

Your thoughts would be appreciated

stick to a new set of decent tyres with a blockky tread pattern For the couple of weeks or so snow and ice we get every year winter tyres just aren't worth splashing out for..

Avon Rangers, around £86.00 a piece and as good as anything around. Will cope with winter no problem and also good general tyre.

I would have suggested General Grabbers but I can't match Wammers price for the Avon's.

The price for the Avons was on line somewhere £86 and odds each i think dilivered. But that was for 255x65x16s.

PS Can't find the buggers any more.

Anyone got a clue what size steel wheels at 16 inches will support a suitable winter tyre for a P38 please? Next question, anyone got a set second hand for sale please?

Also as most of Europe legally requires Winter Marked tyres - in winter, are there any taht are so marked, around UK?

Thanks
Mike

If you're looking for a set of 16" wheels just to put a set of winter tyres on you'll find that most Rangie breakers have sets hanging around. You don't have a location on your posts so I can't suggest one.

As for tyres, I was in a Kwik Fit this week and even they are dealing with winter tyres, so head for your favourite tyre fitter and ask.
