As my insurers are stipulating an insurance approved tracker needs fitting I felt you guys would be a great source of knowledge for me, initially I was going to opt for a skytag but as this isn't Thatcham approved its unacceptable ??
What are peoples experiences ??

Had a factory fitted Tracker on my motorcaravan but didn't like it / them at all so when the subscription ran out (had to pay up front) I replaced it with a Skytag (approved by both my motorcaravan & LR insurers).

Cheers,
unfortunately Skytag isn't approved by my insurer (AF). I had no issues with TRACKER on my previous Impreza ( I did get a lifetime subscription when I purchased it that's not available any more)

All I got was it had to be "Thatcham" approved !!! which equates to a monopoly by Insurers and fitting companies as a tracker is only "approved" when fitted by a "Thatcham" approved vendor form their selected list

Response from Skytag following my recent "explorations"

"With regards to insurance recognition, a lot of insurers are looking for Thatcham approval as a marker for acceptance,
The reason we do not have Thatcham approval is due to the item being a self fit / Local garage fitted product. We meet and exceed the standards for approval, however to obtain it every tracker would need to be fitted by a Thatcham approved fitter"

Must be the underwriter.
My 90 is with AF and they approve my Skytag.

My issue with Tracker was the fact that for the first 12-months the unit wasn't even operating and had to be replaced, after that they gave no assurance that it was then working (at least Skytag contact you every month to confirm the unit is operating plus you can check operation with them at any time for no charge) and when the vehicle was sold on (to a family member at the same address) the paid up-front subscription was cancelled with no refund and the new owner had to start again so the only option was to buy another long-term subscription (the most cost effective way). As if that wasn't bad enough, a couple of years later (now about 7-years old) they said that the unit was effectively at the end of its working life and would soon need to be replaced due to expired battery life (replacement at full retail cost + fitting of course).
After that the motorcaravan got a (insurance approved) Skytag as well!

I have previously documented the top service from Skytag.
Last year the Skytag on my 90 started to play up (unit was some 5-years old by then), I contacted Skytag who were most helpful saying that if I sent it to them they would run a diagnostic check on it. A few days later they said the unit was U/S but a replacement was on its way, sure enough the next day a brand-new unit was with me.
Can't fault that! :)
