As some of you may be aware my 110 had a small fire (link) and will be off the road for some time while I rebuild it. In the mean time I will hopefully be driving my mums TD5 90 which has been laid up in the garage for the last 5 years.
I fitted my wheels to it over the weekend and freed off the handbrake. The brake calipers do not look in the best condition but are not leaking and the hydraulics are working on both brakes and clutch. In time I will look to replace the flexis and probably, looking at the state of the pistons, rebuild the calipers with stainless pistons when it needs pads. It gets a full service on Wednesday and will also have a new battery attached to check the electrics and make sure it starts, It then needs an MOT. I am based in the midlands and although you can drive to a pre-booked MOT appointment I feel driving 130miles to an MOT at my local and known center might be frowned upon if I was pulled over for not having one.
So can any one recommend me a land rover friendly and fair MOT centre near Bridgend? There has to be enough land rovers in the valleys that there will be a good test centre somewhere local.

I can't recommend one but you can download a list off the gov website, i think I'd choose one that's a test station only and not a garage. I've used one that also tests hgv etc and they've always been brilliant

There is a local place that does HGV mot's that i had looked at but because they do HGV they have a two week Waiting list to book, and I need the vehicle before that!

Amen - might also be worth considering one that does "trade" MOT's - I.E. for the mobile mechanic's of this world - where you stay with the vehicle during the test, and not hand it over for some idiot to play with ....

Works for me too - I've followed my tester from a main dealer ( where they knew NOTHING about LR's* ), to a place that does class 7 MOT's ... all good ....

* - when "my" guy moved, the new guy was adamant he wouldn't test LR's - as they would be dirty o_Oo_Oo_O !

I would never dream of just handing the vehicle over. I have always been present for every mot test I have had. If they do not let me observe (in the bay) I walk away. But have been using my current place for the last 8 years. A small village garage, used to land rovers, classics, and agricultural equipment, not some where that will complain the air bag light does not illuminate correctly (happened to a friend for his mot on the defender!)
