This is my way of sleeping better at night and having a smarter defender in one:

Door sensors sense if the door is opened or, let’s face it, someone tries to steal them, and the cubby box magnet wireless charging as well as usb-c. Have put this on Indiegogo as the first of a few products we want to crowdfund and bring to market, but this is essentially the hub, with an IP67 waterproof tracker that is already Insurance approved, we have a loom so it plugs straight into the cubby box area diagnostics port on 1990-2007, and to either the fuse box or under steering diagnostics port for pre 1990 (if you want to adapt a cubby to pre Defender) and to post 2007 to 2016 ones.

I did this recorded video just for Landy Zone as you were the first to help me out when I finally got my defender and noticed a noise after driving it from Bolton to London in one, and then planning on driving another few thousand miles around Europe, which I have done a few times now and added 30,000 miles…

The carbon version has a few benefits, before the « why carbon » brigade roll in: it is a LOT thinner than hardboard (yes cubby boxes are mostly made of hardboard) so a lot more space and will be much more secure with a lock on it, its waterproof and does not rust, as well as being light enough to just take out, yet strong enough to be used as a seat or standing platform if you have a sunroof. It also looks amazing just in the carbon section used; with the campaign we will get it moulded in carbon with different weave and ply options and it looks amazing, yet is hard as nails and will outlast most things in the Defender if left in a field…

Hopefully you will take this as constructive criticism. The lid looks a bit home spun, the standard Puma style would improve the eye appeal much better - I think the Puma one has foam under the upholstery to give it depth and a "soft" look. Good luck with the development.

Thanks Wimblowdriver, all comments welcome, the top and box in video are both from factory / 3rd party cubby boxes we have modified actually, and them looking a bit cheap was one of the reasons we thought about making a better one! I honesltly don't know how square section hardboard as made it so long tbh? The lid won't have got better from having been disected and stuffed with various wireless chargers various times either :)

Yes the Puma one is nicer and has a better foam, and will be asking crowdfunders whether they prefer the deep foam or shallow foam, as well as XL or normal size as we go along, thanks again, Christian
