Rebuild upgrades and advice

On an old vehicle, I don't worry too much about undoing fasteners, just break them off, or cut them off.
New ones on assembly, and grease them up with Copper slip, so that you can undo them again if needed.

Is copper slip the best thing to use or is there some new modern greasy stuff?

Some use aluminium paste now, because Copperslip can contain traces of arsenic. I lived for 25 years in a house built on a massive pile of arsenical mine spoil, so I don't worry about it too much.

Stainless is lovely, but the way it can gaul up really annoys me!
If you use stainless any grease will certainly help.

I have loats of stainless on my s2, many I have removed a few times for repairs etc, all come out with no issues and no corrosion, but as said above all were greased when fitted.

Normal bolts with grease will last well.

If the car is to live under cover then it will last many years no matter what bolts you use.

Ps nice winch, has the thinner support bracket broken? if not its then a very rare winch.

Hi, it's a Turner winch I think. The only thing missing is the drive shaft to the front pulley. I don't think I will be refitting it because its really heavy.

Yes Turner, if that support bracket is not broken they are worth a few quid, weigth is not really an issue with a series, they are slow no matter what you do!

Google LRWinches to see what some of his winches are listed for, you wont get that money in the UK but its a decentish guide.

Scroll right down to the last winch.

Try and start it, or at least wind it over a bit, check for seizure and nasty noises.
That way, if you need lots of engine works, you can be doing that at the same time as you are working on the rolling chassis.

Like the look of those, and the prices look good. I would be more comfortable with painted than galv, to be honest, because galv is quite difficult to paint properly.

No saw them displayed at Leafers at the pit a couple of years bck at the time they where only making the series 3 one after discussion with Series 2 club they now make series 2 as well have heard no complaints at all.
I bought a second hand one spent months repairing it then getting shotblasted and galvanised . fitted it in 2010 I do get some paint lifting but that was because I only etch primed than painted apparently I should have T washed it 1st which attacks the zinc a little to give the etch primer a better bond.

My Chassis is probably repairable but it is really bad.
It would need a new full front repair section and a new back one, all the outriggers also need to be replaced.
Also they rot from the inside too and mine doesn't look great internally.
I have heard about the t wash and also about ruffing the surface up to get better adhesion.
If you did it again would you replace the chassis?

I did replace my chassis Marsland fitted in 2010.

Did you fit a new bulkhead or did you repair your old one?
My strip-down has started I couldn't wait any longer....
