I bought a second hand rear wiper motor. To test it before fitting I hot wired it to a battery. It worked fine. However when I fitted it to the back door and connected up the connectors it didn't work at all.

Where should I start to get it going again. I'm not that hot with electrics.

This might sound a bit daft, but did you have the drivers door open when you were testing it?

For some reason it doesn't work when the drivers door is open, or other door on some.

cheers

Landycommander you are a legend! I closed the door and it worked. I could have faffed around for ages trying to sort this out.

I didn't know that.

A few weeks ago I defrosed the windows then pressed the rear wiper button and it went crunch - damn, not enough deicing! So got out to free it off incase it was still trying to run and burnt my motor out. So the drivers door was open, pulled it off the ice and went and put the switch on, drivers door still open. It didn't run, just assumed it had blown fuse or damaged the motor.

Later on I tried it again and it worked, so now I know why it wasn't working when I freed it off!

Ah the things you learn - I wonder if it just senses an open door, doesn't know which one it is, and incase it's the rear door it doesn't run it incase it swipes someone or something.

I stripped down my original motor and cleaned it all up and refitted it - it didnt work so I assumed it was fecked and got another one off ebay!

This one also didnt work to begin with and then by chance i left it switched on and closed all the doors and hey presto, it worked!

it wasnt till a couple of weeks later i came across a thread on here detailing that the wiper wouldnt work if the drivers door was open!

AAHH! A few weeks back, I had a sticking lock on my rear door and had to take the door card off to free the lock. Got that sorted, put the door card back on and reconnected the speaker. Tried the wiper to check that everything was okay and lo...it didn't work!!

Bugger, methinks I've knocked the connector on the wiper motor!!

Two hours of faffing later, took everything apart...put everything back together and it had started working again.

I wish I'd known it was just cause I'd initially left the driver's door open that it hadn't worked!!:der:

Now I know!!!:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi
