P38A rear wiper motor seized

Got the cover off the motor easy enough and the 4 bolts holding the gearbox to the back plate, but the spindle is very stiff. Should the back plate just slide off the spindle? Ie. secure the plate and tap the spindle through, or is there anything stopping it? Looks like the bit round the spindle is riveted in place

Is there supposed to be some kind of bearing in the end of the motor cover to keep everything in line?
